Chocolate Mint and Strawberry Mojitos

I'm a big fan of discovering new things. For instance, I recently came upon my new favorite herb. Chocolate mint. Actually, I discovered The Farm at Walker Jones and they brought chocolate mint into my life. The Farm at Walker Jones is a garden located on the corner of New Jersey (whoot whoot) Ave. and K Street NW where they sell the produce and herbs from the garden. The very woman who was manning the produce stand took us all around the garden and showed off their beautiful herb garden. She told us we had to try the chocolate mint and I was hooked. It tastes like mint at first and then there is a distinct chocolate flavor as you continue to enjoy the mint. I knew this was a cocktail waiting to happen. For my first go-round, I figured that a mojito was the obvious choice. Then...what ius more natural than chocolate and strawberries? Nothing. Mix them all together and you have the most amazing (and lethal) drink. Then, in a fit of craziness, I shaved a tiny bit of dark chocolate on top to echo the chocolate in the mint. If you live in DC and want to make this drink, I suggest heading over to the Farm and Walker Jones on Tuesday or Thursday between 4-6pm or on Sunday afternoon to pikc up some chocolate mint for yourself (only $1 for a big bunch!) and get cocktail making.
Chocolate Mint and Strawberry Mojitos (makes one large pitcher)
Ingredients:
1 pint strawberries
1 large bunch chocolate mint
1 liter seltzer
2 cups vodka or white rum
1 cup confectioner sugar
6 limes
1 small bar dark chocolate
Ice
1. Wash the slice the strawberries and place at the bottom of a large pitcher.
2. Add the sugar and smash around with the berries. Then add the vodka and juice of 5 limes. Stir this mixture until the sugar is dissolved.
3. Pull the mint from the stems and add the mint and stir around and chop up one lime and add the chopped lime.
4. Add the seltzer and stir.
5. Fill glasses with ice and pour the drink into the glasses, getting some strawberries, lime, and mint into each glass.
6. Using a vegetable peeler, shave about 1 Tbs. of chocolate into fine pieces.
7. Sprinkle the drinks lightly with a dash of chocolate.
